WHO OR WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?
The Legend of the KamiLah is a brand new series that I have written for my daughter. I want her to grow up and be inspired to be better than me.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO WRITE?
After getting pregnant, I thought to myself; this would be a good time to write a book. I have all this time and I need to do something or I'll go crazy.
WAS THIS BOOK INFLUENCED BY YOUR OWN PERSONAL LIFE EXPERIENCE?
This book is loosely based on personal life experiences. I was bullied from first grade to eighth grade by the same three girls and I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me in the slightest.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?
It took me a year to write the book and a year to edit. It then took me another year to rewrite the book and edit it. Nothing amazing is fast, and those seeking instant gratification will be thoroughly disappointed.
WHAT MAKES YOU A WRITER OR AN AUTHOR?
If you muster the courage to have others judge your every word and thought; you are a writer. If you are good enough that more than a few people read your work, then you are an author.
IS THIS YOU FIRST OFFICIAL PUBLISHED WORK?
I did write and illustrate an award-winning book in the third grade. I beat everyone in the school with a beautiful story of how I got a dog. My mom says it really is a great story and well written for an eight-year-old. She is my mother and obligated to say nice things about me, so I am not sure If it counts. The school had my book made into a real book and put in their library. If I come across this book I will post it just to prove my writing has improved.
WILL THERE BE A PREQUEL OR A SEQUEL?
There are seven books planned for the series and there could be six prequels if my fans desire it.
WHAT AGE GROUP IS THIS BOOK AIMED AT?
Anyone who can read Harry Potter books can and should read this series. I don't like to put an age limit on my books because they can be for everyone.
ADVICE FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS?
Being a writer is not for the faint of heart. You must really believe in yourself and have many who love you. Personally, I like to surround myself with brutally honest people. That really helps me stay grounded and it keeps big mistakes from getting into my work. Mistakes will be made when you are writing, it is inevitable. Don't let this discourage you from showing
HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO TAKE YOUR WORK FROM MANUSCRIPT TO PUBLICATION?
I have received a few rejections, but to be fair there was a lot of mistakes in my original work. Always run a few edits on your manuscript before sending it.
